I’m Lisa Gordanier, copyeditor, proofreader, cookbook editor, experienced professional chef, and writer. In 2008, I decided to combine my expertise in cooking and baking with my love of language, with all its maddening rules and inspiring possibilities. In particular, I was tired of reading recipes, even from reliable sources, that were vague, confusing, or just downright sloppy. I wanted to help people who cook and eat—that’s all of us—succeed when they set out to follow a recipe. Serious schooling ensued, and I’ve been working for some great clients in the field of food-related editing (books, magazines, and websites) ever since.
While food-related texts are my specialty, I edit a variety of materials: general nonfiction, magazine articles, business documents, academic papers, web texts, and more. Since I’m a lifelong professional musician with a BA in music, I count music as a subspecialty. I work for book and magazine publishers as well as with individuals on self-published books and other projects.
Ultimately, my work is all about what you’ve written: it’s about reaching your audience and grabbing them with your own words, expressed in your own unique voice, while presenting a professional, error-free, and first-rate finished product.
